Changing directions mid-novel

So, you spend all this time outlining what you plan to write, including generating a list of events and the order they occur. Then, through no fault of your own, you change direction after chapter one. Oh Boy!!!

I've joined the mass of authors attempting to write a novel in a month's time (November). After working out the ending, I realized that the ending worked better as the beginning. Am I nuts? Well, yes, but that's besides the point! TThe action of writing outlines first and developing a list of characters who are deeply developed before putting pen to paper has made the change not so big a deal. The outlining process itself is often the hardest part, because we spend time getting familiar with the characters were about to spean 80,000 words of time with. The changes that occur along the way are to be expected. As long as you've put in some prep time, all is usually good.

NaNo Write Month

It's November, which means it's time for crazy authors to attempt to write an entire novel (minimum of 50,000 words) in one month. For the first time, I've decided to join in, though I've put a little twist on things (I know, shocking).

I'm working on two novels while also continue to do fact checking for another work. The first novel, Hope in a Bottle, is the novel I started on November 1st; it's the primary manuscript I'm working on for the month. It's a tale of individuals facing overwhelming challenges only to find guidance from bottles, which contain messages of hope inside. Currently, the first chapter was a bit much for a first chapter; I'll probably make it the 3rd or 4th - we'll see.

The other novel is Calling Wren. I've talked about and outlined this story constantly. Thankfully, it's now making significant progress. My goal is to have both completed by November 30th. Wish me luck!
